Universal WKT, GeoJSON, WKB, KML, KMZ and Shapefile Converter

Paste text or upload files, auto-detect the format, preview the geometry on a map, then export to GeoJSON, WKT, WKB, KML, KMZ or Shapefile ZIP. Everything runs locally in your browser.

What this tool is best at

  • Quick conversions across many formats in one place.
  • Fast format detection for pasted text and uploaded files.
  • Preview before you copy or download.

Common limits to know

  • Shapefile export keeps Polygon and MultiPolygon only.
  • KML and KMZ assume WGS84 lon/lat (EPSG:4326).
  • Very large datasets may be slow in the browser.

Universal converter FAQ

What inputs does the universal converter accept?
Paste GeoJSON (Feature, FeatureCollection or geometry), WKT (single or multiple lines), WKB as hex or base64, or KML. You can also upload a zipped ESRI Shapefile (.zip) or a KMZ (.kmz). The tool auto-detects the format and normalizes everything to a GeoJSON FeatureCollection internally.
Does it convert automatically while I type?
Yes. When you paste or edit text, the converter auto-parses after a short pause. File uploads convert immediately.
Which outputs can I create?
From the same input you can create GeoJSON, WKT, WKB (hex or base64), KML, KMZ and a Shapefile ZIP. Shapefile export includes Polygon and MultiPolygon only.
What files are inside the Shapefile ZIP?
You will get .shp, .shx, .dbf and a .prj file. The .prj is WGS84 (EPSG:4326). The tool does not reproject your coordinates.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs locally in your browser. Geometry is not sent to a server unless you explicitly use Save, Load or Send to Dashboard in the full editor.
The tool mis-detected my input. What can I do?
Try pasting a cleaner input, for example plain WKT lines without extra columns. If detection still fails, use a dedicated converter for that format pair and share the failing sample or steps so we can improve the universal detector.
My export is huge. What should I do?
Prefer KMZ instead of KML for smaller files. If it is still too big, simplify or batch first using the Shapefile Reducer tool, or open the full editor to clean, merge or simplify before exporting.
